The Utah State Railroad Museum is located in the north wing of the historic Union Station with indoor exhibits about the building of the transcontinental railroad, Operation Lifesaver, a Maintenance of Way Exhibit, and the Browning-Kimball Model Railroad, a model train display of scenic features along the transcontinental railroad and other bits of historical railway information. This gallery requires museum admission. Outside is basically a public park containing the Eccels Rail Center where the train cars are situated. These are mostly locomotives both diesel and electric including UP #26 with a gas turbine jet engine which is extremely long built in 1961 and only used in 1970 (adding helper locomotives is more efficient). There is also the flat car modifed to house the Olympic Torch and many many more pieces of locomotives and mostly freight equipment.
