SMEE on the 2

On December 11, and 12, 2004 The IRT SMEE
train of many colors ran in revenue service on the 2 between East 180th
Street, Bronx and Times Square. This was part of the Subway Centennial
Celebration and Take a Vintage Train into the holidays, the same reason the R1-9s ran on the Broadway Line

My Route: (On sunday)
I started by taking the Bx35 over to 167th Street on the 4, I then, do to a G.O, had to take a northbound train to Burnside Avenue, switch directions to a southbound train which ran non-stop to 149 Street-Grand Concourse. Here I switched to a 2 train and took that to West Farms Square-East Tremont Avenue. Where I switched to the Downtown platform and Waited for SMEE,
A Little while later SMEE arrived, I photographed it as it entered
and stopped in the station in the East 180th St-bound direction
standing form the Southern end of the southbound platform. I then let
it leave and go to East 180th to reverse and it went to the other end
of the platform and waited for it to come back, it did. I took it the
entire way to Times Square where it went into the lay-up track, switched directions and it came back. I took it back to West Farms Square-East Tremont Avenue.
And photographed the train leaving the station. As it was leaving a
brand new R-142S train that had just been delivered was being tested on
the 5, the train entered the station, opened its doors on the track
side and left. I took a 2 or 5 train down to 174th Street and
photographed SMEE enter that station. I then took SMEE to Jackson
Avenue, to photograph it leaving the station, here my batteries ran out
and I had to replace them just as it was exiting the station, I missed
the photo opportunity. I then left SMEE. |
