October, 2011:Fall Foliage Through Domes
This is the epic adventure during the fall of my gap year. It started off on a ten day Rocky Mountaineer Golder Circle via Whistler Vacation with my Grandmother before I did station to stations in Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland including every Amtrak Cascades Station and wended my way east on the Empire Builder to the Midwest, with side trips on the Hiawatha and Wolverine before ending with riding 'Ocean View', the only dome car Amtrak has left on a fall foliage special!
19 August-21 August, 2008: Amtrak Back to Colorado
At the end of summer I decided to go back to Colorado by train, using the fastest possible Amtrak itinerary: The Lake Shore Limited to the California Zephyr. Scheduled travel time: 40 hours, Actual travel time: 43 hours, Door Too Door Trip-Time: 45 hours. Not too bad if you ask me for a 2,000 mile overland journey, it was also my first Westbound cross-country train trip.
6 July-14 July, 2008: The Lake Ontario Loop
I went for a weeklong trip up to Toronto and Montreal making breif stops in Ottawa and Buffalo, to explore some new cities as well as railfan. I took four different Amtrak trains and two different VIA Rail Canada Trains. One of the biggest highlights though was riding the Adirondack south from Montreal. It's up there with the California Zephyr as one of the most scenic trains I've been on.
June/July 2006: Amtrak All the Way Across the USA: From Pudget Sound to the Hudson River
I finally did what I had wanted to due for a while, take Amtrak Cross-Courtry from Tacoma, WA home to New York, NY, making stops in Syracuse and Chicago. I rode Amtrak Cascades, The Empire Buider, The Late Shore Limited, and an Empire Service
Train. Join me for this 3 days/3 nights, 66 hour adventure.
15 & 18 February, 2006: The No Snow Vermonter
I went for a trip up to Vermont at a time of year when the area should be snow covered, but this time it was like mud season.
27 & 30 December, 2005: An Empire Holiday
I went on a quick Christmas week trip to Syracuse
10 August, 2005: Metro-North: To The North: With Some Locomotive Oddies
Today I rode up to Wassaic, finishing up Metro-North. I have now ridden every inch of it. I then went over to Danbury, and railfanned the New Haven Line. The two Shuttle's I took weren't using the typical Genesis P32 AC-DMs.
23 June, 2005: Albany for Lunch
Today I had to go up to Albany for Lunch via Amtrak's Aderondeck and Empire Service.
20 June, 2005: Metro-North's New Haven Line Branches
Today I railfanned Metro-North's Danbury and New Canaan Branches. I had ridden the Waterbury branch on a previos trip. This trip completed every inch of the New Haven Line for me, now the only place I need to go is up the
Harlem Line to Wassaic. I also made some photo stops on the main line.
15 February, 2005: The Lake Shore or the Empire?
Amtrak: Syracuse to Penn Station, New York. Which train to Take: The Empire Service or the Lake Shore Limited?
