The Santa Fe Depot Station is located in the rail yards district of Santa Fe, which had many more tracks that there are now, a lot of the former track beds have been turned into a park that provides excellent vantage points for photographing the Rail Runner as well as the Santa Fe Southern Railway, that runs both tourist and freight trains down the original (and only until Railrunner in 2008) branch line to Lamy that brought the AT&SF into Santa Fe. The station is shared by both railways in Santa Fe and lacks the typical Railrunner branding features and the only indication that it is a Rail Runner station is a tactile warning strip along the long stretch of pavement, that serves as the single platform, a mini-high platform for wheelchairs (with a bridge plate) and a couple of small information panels with Railrunner information in them. Across form the main platform is a small train yard of a couple tracks where the Santa Fe Southern keeps it's historic passenger cars, and a dome cars and some locomotives. Rail Runner trains that have layovers in Santa Fe are stored on sidings either just south of the South Capital Station or in the median of I-25 north of the Santa Fe County/NM599 station. The station also has it's original Mission style station house that serves as the headquarters of the Santa Fe Southern Railway with a decent sized but barren gift shop (had some Rail Runner T-shirts for sale) at the checkout/information desk is a small sign apologizing that the attendant is an employee of the Santa Fe Southern Railway and not Rail Runner Express. There is no parking lot around the station, even for SF Southern Railway Passengers, but a nearby pay garage, making this station a real downtown commuter stop.
