South Norwalk is a major station, although it doesn't have Amtrak service very few Metro-North trains bypass it that extend all the way to New Haven. It is also the terminus of some rush hour trains. The station is the transfer point to the shuttle to Danbury. The station has two side platforms for the four main line tracks in addition their are two short stub-tracks that are unelectrified and end in bumper blcks at the eastern ends of the two platforms. These tracks can only platform 2 cars. The track along the eastbound platform is used by the two Shoreliners and a Genesis P32AC-DM Locomotive Danbury Shuttle. The track along the western platform looked unused although it was also designed for trains like the Danbury shuttle.
