Island Park is on the Long Beach Branch, and is one stop away from the terminal of the branch at Long Beach. It is located on Barnum Island, one of the many barrier islands south of Long Island proper. Interestingly it is one of only three LIRR station that are outside of Long Island proper (the other two are Penn Station, and Long Beach the terminal stop, on a different island south). The station is located at a grade and has a grade crossing at the southern (western-service wise) end of the two side platforms on the two track electrified line. The station is fully wheelchair accessable with ramps up to each platform. Parking is in small parking lots along both platforms. Each platform can accomodate 12 cars, the longest an LIRR train is. Their is a station house that is now closed along the New York-bound platform.
