Hempstead is the terminus of the LIRR Hempstead Line which is electrified. The station has one terminal island platforms and a few lay-up tracks on one side. The station has a large modern station house and is located across the street for the Hempstead Transit Center, Long Island Bus's main terminal. The station has the standard large parking lot.
