Subway: 5

Gun Hill Road is located on the very scenic Dyre Avenue Branch that used to be part of the New York, Westchester & Boston Railroad the abandoned railroad was acquired by the city in the 1940s. The station looks like it's in the country and not just part of the Bronx. The station like every other on the former railroad had unusual columns that looked completely different then the rest of the subway. These were removed when the station became like every other subway station in the 1980s. The columns are left only in the large station building at East 180 Street. The station has slide platforms and room for two express tracks although only one exists. The exit is at the extreme northern end of the platform on an overpass.

Construction required Shuttle buses to replace 2 trains north of East 180 Street, so the trains came up to Dyre Avenue along with the 5.
