125 Street is the only part of the opening day subway that is elevated. It is this way because of Manhattan Valley, which it is located in. When exiting the tunnel on a train notice that it is going DOWN a little. Good out of system railfanning spots are the Tunnel Portal South of the Station and the Tunnel Portal north of the station.

The Station During Rehabilitation: In the Fall of 2003 125 Street was reconstructed to look like it did on opening day, 1904. The boring 1970s windscreen was replaced with green glass windows. Trains skipped the station in different directions at different times. When I went all downtown trains were skipping the station. Since 137 Street has no crossover, free transfer tickets were given out. (All Photos unless otherwise noted in this section are by Jeremiah Cox on 13 November, 2003)
