About 7th Avenue/53rd Street
7 Avenue/53 Street is a stacked four track two platform station with easy island platforms that have one short fight between them. The confusing thing is that trains come in opposite directions at each platform. For example the upper level is Downtown: the E (on the southern side) runs from east to west, but the B·D runs the opposite from west to east. The reverse is true for the lower level Uptown side. The system runs this way because 7th Avenue is a crosstown stop. The platforms were built for easy transferring between the north-south directions so you did not go in loops if you transfered across the islands.
