This is an account of transferring at 145 Street (The reason at the bottom of the page Harlem-145 Street is written is because the B's destination signs say it (The real 'Harlem' station, on the map, is Harlem-125 Street (4,5,6, Metro-North) it is written nowhere else in the station and no one calls it Harlem-145 Street) from a downtown A an uptown D: Getting off the A I walk to the nearest staircase that goes up. (The staircases that go down go straight down to the downtown B,D. There is no transfer mezzanine like at West 4 Street).

On the mezzanine there is a transit police station. This leads me to believe that when the station was first opened and until the police station was built the station had a full length mezzanine, like a lot of other IND stations. I also wonder if any staircases were removed (like at 59 Street shown from the outdated station layout maps in the station). This section of the mezzanine is for the exit to 145 Street. It has two staircases up from each direction and to my dismay only an up escalator from the northbound D platform only.

I walk down to the uptown A,C platform, and continue down another staircase to the B,D platform. This platform is unusual. The uptown platform occupies the space of the same platform upstairs and what would be the uptown express track. Then there is a middle track that is used by D Concourse express trains during peak direction rush hours and by the B when it terminates here.

Had I known that there was a B train, I could have walked down a flight and gone through the train.
