The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail currently has an extension that is
currently under construction. The extension will extend the currently
short Lincoln Harbor Shuttle, up along the Hudson River north to a new
Port Imperial station, the line will then curve east and enter the Weehawken Tunnel under Union City with a new
Bergenline Avenue Station in the middle. This station will be located in the middle of the tunnel at 160 feet below the surface. There are to be
three high speed elevators and stairway access, which is required for emergencies. There is
also a fan system to take care of any smoke problem. It might allow
for the eventual operation of diesel MUs...although I think this will never
happen. After leaving the tunnel in North Bergen the last stop will be
Tonnelle Avenue.
