The County Center/Little Italy Station opened as a single station extension on July 1992 (I couldn't find an exact opening date). The extension was extremely short, this is only a few blocks north of Santa Fe Station, the pervious terminus, and just one block north of Ash Street the northern end of the long mainline rail platforms. The stop has two side platforms for the two track line on the east side of the main line railroad tracks used by Amtrak and the Coaster. These platforms run between the grade crossings with Beech Street and Cedar Streets. Each of these has two white bus stop-style shelters (with ads) covering two benches for waiting passengers. The station was closed beginning on May 21, 2012 for two months to facilitate the rebuilding of the platforms (and adding two inches to their heights) for the operations of Low-Floor Trolleys. Shuttle Bus Service is being provided to County Center/Little Italy.
