The Williamsburg Bridge is the J,M,Z Nassau Street Line connection to the Broadway Line in Brooklyn. The bridge is between the Essex Street station in Manhattan and the Marcy Avenue Station in Brooklyn. The bridge was the second link over the east river opening in 1---. The bridge itself was underbuilt from the start because the company that provated the steal ripped the city off giving them a lesser grade. The bridge always seems to be a construction project. There are just two train tracks on the bridge smack in the center of the span. The view down the river is not very good (not like the Manhattan). The footpaths are on eather side of the tracks so they are a very good place to watch trains except there is a 7 foot high fence (When I was there the nort path wasn't opened) or a wire tarp around it opstructing the view (there are some good places). On the approach into Manhattan the footpath is directly over the tracks, so there is no view of trains.

No trains
ran over the Williamsburg Bridge from May to October
1999, due to major reconstruction on the subway
approaches. This is a scan of the take-one saying what to
do to get to Manhattan and service (the spanish part
is not scaned). J-From Jamaica Center to Myrtle Avenue at all
times. |
