Prospect Park is the southern terminus of the Franklin Avenue Shuttle. The very northern end of the station on the middle tracks (used by the B and Q) are in a tunnel where the lines stay underground until they cross the Manhattan Bridge. The tunnel starts earlier because of an overpass and station house with fare control, there is also one at the southern end of the station that has an elevator to each track making the station wheelchair accessible (This is the full time booth). The station was recently renovated. All Franklin Avenue shuttle trains stop on the Northbound-track. The extra shuttle train is stored on the southern end of the Southbound Track. The Q local switches onto the local tracks south of the station. If there was trough service from Franklin Avenue/Futon Street to Coney Island/Brighten Beach Manhattan bound trains would run express and stop on the center tracks, Franklin Avenue-bound trains would run local stopping on the side tracks. All switches are south of the station.

North of the station on now what is the Franklin Avenue shuttle in a S-curve in the Malbone Street Tunnel, the worst accident in the history of the subway took place when a train moving 45 miles an hour in a place where it was meant to be going six crashed. The tragedy happened on November 1st, 1918. The driver of the BRT train had one days training because of a Strike of Motormen and Train guards. The route of trains on the Brighten line then was Park Row, over the Brooklyn Bridge, up the destroyed Fulton Street El to Franklin Avenue, down what is now the Franklin Avenue Shuttle and on to Brighten Beach. The train driver had trouble all evening on the beginning of the route over shooting platforms. At the end the tragedy the total death tally was 178. Shortly after Malbone Street was re-named Empire Blvd and the S-curve area was rebuilt into a more direct tunnel
