Tacoma, WA is an intermedate stop on the Amtrak Cascades, the Coast Starlight stops as well. The Amtrak Station is located a little ways outside the city of Tacoma, and is completely seperate from Sounder Commuter Rail's Tacama Dome Station, which is located a few blocks down Puyallup Avenue. This walk is through heavy industry, and is not all that nice. The small Tacoma LINK Light Rail, can also be connected to here. Their is also a historic Union Station, located in the hart of downtown that has a big sign on it saying that the Amtrak station isn't their. Union Station's current use is as a federal court building. The current station, has a fairly big parking lot, and the station house has the 1970s Amtrak desing, all station signs have the old Amtrak 'inverted arrow'. Their is decent sized waiting, area and a ticket office with checked baggage service. Their is one fairly long platform, portions of it have gotten the tactile warning strip treatment.
